Republic of Zimbabwe is a country of Africa. It is a developing country. The major issues are poverty, unemployment and growing population rate. All the major credit card issuers are offering their services in Zimbabwe. But mostly, Visa and Master card are accepted widely in the country. People use them in restaurants, hotels, petrol pumps and retail shops. American Express and Diners also offering services but sometimes these cards are not accepted at some places.
You can also withdraw amount from ATMs as well. Increased usage of Zimbabwe Credit Cards has uplifted the economy as well. In 2004, economy of the country was showing downfall and had GDP growth rate (-13.6%). After that, Zimbabwe government has taken the initiative for economic reforms. So local currency has been suspended and has been replaced by international currency. Percentage of credit card usage is increased. So the current statistics of the year 2009 is that GDP of Zimbabwe is about 332.1 US dollars.
Expensive Use and Re-Establishment
However, use of Zimbabwe Credit Cards is a bit expensive. This is because every transaction of credit cards has to go through the official banks and then converted into government exchange rate. Administration is also thinking about the re-establishment of the credit card market.
The main reason for this is the requirements of tourists. Government is also providing Point of Sale Facilities at retail shops. This will decrease the dependency of tourists on cash. There are various banks, which have started the process of installation of POS machines at different places. This will definitely help the country to get rid of this crisis situation.
