Sri Lanka Credit Cards

Credit cards are not widely used in Sri Lanka and there are not so many credit card holders. Only 10% of the Internet users actually use credit cards in Sri Lanka for the payments. There are few limiting factors that restrict people for using the credit cards. The Sri Lanka credit cards usually have a lower credit limit that ranges between US $500 and $1000, which is fairly low as compared to other countries.

HSBC is a very prominent bank that works all around the world. It also serves Sri Lanka and it offers a range of credit cards.

Such as the Classic credit card that offers several services such as the Easy Bill Settlement, which allow the users at HSBC to pay their utility, telephone, insurance and other bills from their credit cards.

Another popular service is the Mobitel SMS Pay. Mobitel is the leading mobile service provider in Sri Lanka; the Mobitel users having credit cards by HSBC can now pay bills and even reload their connections via SMS. HSBC credit card holders can also find their credit via SMS. It works in Sri Lank as well as around the world and there is no registration fee.

National Credit Cards

Talking about the national banks of Sri Lanka, the Sampath Bank is a very popular and prominent bank of Sri Lanka that was opened in 1980s and it offers a variety of Sri Lanka credit cards.

Such as the VISA Platinum, Gold and Silver, Chip Card, which is Visa supported. Other credit cards also include the Affinity card that is MasterCard supported. Such credit cards are especially designed for the people of Sri Lanka

Fall in Credit Cards

There are very few numbers of Sri Lanka credit cards and the private sector’s credit has fallen to 1,264 billion rupees from 1,278 billion rupees. There were 923,758 credit cards and it has fallen to 917,418 credit cards in just two months. Although there are many multinational banks that are offering credit cards but very few people are taking interests.

American Express Credit Cards

The American Express offers four major Sri Lanka credit cards that are Platinum, Gold, Green and Blue.

Talking about the American Express Platinum credit card, it offer several benefits that includes 55 interest free days, free travel insurance and it also earns you 3 flying miles on every spending of Rs.100 at their partners.

The American Express Gold is also very popular that offers free card replacement overseas and free travel insurance. The American Express Green and Blue are also very popular Sri Lanka credit cards and they offer numerous features.
